Mike, this is a great idea and advice for anyone else that is having the same issue. You did the right thing by swishing up tomatoes in a blender. Canned plum tomatoes work best where possible. I'm so happy that you love the recipe, don't tell anybody but it's one of my favourites too!

I haven't had any luck finding passata so instead I put a large can of San Marzano tomatoes in my food processor and pulse it a few time. I like to leave some small chunks of tomatoes. I also add 2 tablespoons of tomato paste. When serving on pasta, I put about 1 1/2 cups of the ragu in a pan with a splash of the pasta water, bring it to a simmer, then stir in some pasta, top with parmesan cheese. I also love it over mashed potatoes and topped with parmesan cheese. I actually have some cooking in the oven as I am writing this comment. This is my second time making it.
