how to reheat tamales guide

Before you learn how to reheat tamales, you'll need to understand what they are and what they are made of. A tamale or tamales are a traditional dish you'd find being served in Mexico and neighbouring countries.

It is a small masa-based dish, which generally takes on a rectangular form. It is filled with meats, cheeses, fruits, vegetables, chillies, etc. and then wrapped and steamed in banana leaves.

The banana leaves are not edible, so they are either disposed of or used as a plate. If you don't have access to masa or masa harina, then check out these masa harina substitutes.

In either case, tamales are a very popular street food throughout Central America, Latin America and the USA. Apparently, they have been around since 8000 BC.

It is said that the Aztecs, Incans and Mayans used to take tamales on their hunting trips as they were very easy to carry around. So, if you love exploring Latin American food, you should definitely try tamales.

For meat fiends, few things are as satisfying as a sumptuous sausage – but, if you’ve got a whole load of leftovers… can you reheat sausages?

Let’s find out the answer to the question that, along with a dollop of mustard, is one the lips of sausage lovers up and down the land.

Chipolatas on cocktail sticks

Products you need for reheating sausages

There are a few things you’ll need in your kitchen to properly reheat cooked sausages:

  • Saucepan – whether you’re steaming them or heating them through as part of a recipe, you’ll need a saucepan to reheat leftover sausages
  • Baking try – if reheating cold sausages in the oven is your choice of method, you’ll need a good baking tray on which to reheat them
  • Frying pan – if you want to pan fry your sausages back to their (almost) best, a decent non-stick frying pan is going to be needed
  • Microwave – is time of the essence? Using a microwave is the busy bee’s best friend and an excellent piece of equipment when it comes to reheating just about anything, including good old bangers

Well, can you reheat sausages?

Absolutely! Don’t let those sausages go to waste – not only can you reheat sausages, but there are plenty of different ways to do so. Some methods preserve the taste and texture better than others, while some are a little simpler to carry out.

Before you reheat your sausages, keep these following points in mind:

You should always make sure to reheat sausages until they are piping hot all the way through to the middle. This is to make sure there is isn’t harmful bacteria in the sausage.

The sooner you reheat the sausages, the better they’ll taste. Try to reheat them with a day or so of cooking them.

You don’t have to reheat sausages separately. If you want to use them with a dish such as scrambled eggs or a pasta dish, you can chop them up and heat them with the dish.

Semi dry sausage can be salvaged by heating it through with a sauce, like a spaghetti sauce.

Can you reheat sausages more than once?

Technically, yes, you can reheat sausages multiple times, as it is safe to do so. Whether it’s a good idea is another matter.

The more times you reheat sausages, the drier they’ll be and the more the flavour of the sausage will suffer. When it’s at its best, a sausage is a thing of simple beauty. So, try not to affect the taste and texture too much, and keep reheating to a minimum.

The thing to keep in mind is to reheat only as much as you need. So, if you have lots of leftover sausages and you want to reheat them for a specific meal, only reheat the exact amount you’ll think you’ll need. Then you can reheat the others for another meal or snack.

How do you know if a sausage is cooked properly?

Before you even think about reheating sausages, you need to make sure they’ve been cooked properly. In order to be safe to eat, sausages need to have an internal temperature of 82°C/180°F.

The best way to find out the temperature of your cooked sausages is to use a meat thermometer

How long do cooked sausages last?

As long as you cook sausages properly, they’ll last for 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator.

How do you store cooked sausage?

Your sausage leftovers should always be kept in an airtight container in the fridge.

Can you leave leftover sausage out overnight?

No. Sausages should be bagged and tagged and placed in the fridge within two hours of being cooked or being out of the fridge.

No doubt you’ve done it before and it hasn’t made you sick, but the reality is that bacteria grows very fast on meat that’s left at room temperature. So, for me, it’s really not worth the risk.

How do you tell if sausages have gone off?

First of all, if they feel slimy, they’re no good. Also, although some sausages are meant to look grey, a grey sausage is often a telltale sign.

Finally, use your nose. A sour smelling sausage should be binned immediately.

How do I use leftover sausages?

In a sarnie

When it comes to a quick snack, few things beat a simple sausage sandwich. Add mustard for that extra bite!

In pasta dishes

A great method for reheating sausages is to add them to a pasta dish. Chop up your cold sausages and stir them into your pasta sauce. You could even add them to a lasagne or bolognese.

With scrambled egg

Another good way to reheat your sausages is to chop them up and fry them in the pan, before turning down the heat and scrambling an egg. That way you can ensure the sausages are properly reheated, but still use them in the scrambled egg dish.

With mashed potatoes

You can’t go wrong with bangers and mash! For a quick midweek meal, this would be the perfect pairing with your reheated sausages. Add peas and seal the deal.

For toad in the hole

Reheating your cold sausages for toad in the hole is a good way to keep them from drying out, as they’re heated with the batter. If you’ve never tried toad in the hole, it’s delicious and really simple to make!

To add richness to soups or casseroles

A simple yet highly effective way of using up leftover sausages is to chop them up and add them to a one pot dish, such as a soup or casserole. This works best when you only have a sausage or two, but you’ve got a lot of people to feed.

Just a small amount of sausage can bring a lot of flavour. I highly recommend this way of using up sausage, as it can really make an impact on your dish. It’s almost like a little secret ingredient!

Whether it’s breakfast or lunch, a fluffy omelette can make for a delightful meal, especially this Mexican Omelette. Make it with vegetables, cheese, or keep it simple - omelettes are super versatile.

parmesan topped Mexican omelette.

But what if you make the omelette a little too big and end up with leftovers? Will the leftover omelette reheat well and keep its delicious taste?

Equipment Needed to Reheat an Omelette

  • Microwave: a great tool that will heat up the omelette in no time, with little hassle.
  • Toaster oven: to get the edges of leftover omelet nice and crispy, a toaster oven is the perfect tool of choice.
  • Air fryer: one of the best and fastest ways to reheat an omelette is with this vessel. It will reheat a frozen omelet in a heartbeat.
  • Skillet or Fry Pan: reheat the leftover omelet on the stove with a skillet or fry pan to get omelettes that taste fresh.
  • Baking Tray: this is a great way to heat up multiple omelettes at the same time.

Do Omelettes Reheat Well?

Yes! Omelettes are an amazing breakfast cuisine that are hailed as one of the best meal prep breakfasts. This is because reheating omelettes is easy and can last in the fridge for a long time.

You can make a lot of omelette at once and have enough for a couple day’s worth of breakfasts. The egg dish is healthy, easy to make, and can be made in many different ways. These benefits are only amplified by the fact that they reheat amazingly!

There are plenty of ways to reheat omelettes, and none need too much fancy equipment.

How Do You Know If the Omelette is Properly Cooked?

It can be difficult to tell if an omelette is cooked thoroughly as some people enjoy them slightly undercooked. But, there are some things that you should look out for to make sure you’re not eating an uncooked omelet!

The outside of the omelet should be solid, while the inside can be a bit “runny.” The runny part should still be cooked, because raw egg has the potential to give food poisoning or salmonella.

Many prefer having their omelettes slightly undercooked, because fully cooked omelettes can be on the dry side. It’s all up to preference, but make sure the inside of the omelet is only slightly runny and not uncooked.

How Long Do Omelettes Last?

Omelettes can last for quite a while, but it depends on what toppings you add in. Plain omelettes will last in the fridge for about 4 days, and in the freezer for 3 months.

If you added cheese, veggies, or meat to the omelet, then they may not last as long. A good rule of thumb is for omelettes with toppings, keep them in the fridge for up to 3 days and in the freezer for up to 2 months.

How Do You Store Omelettes?

Fridge

The best way to store omelets in the fridge is by placing them in an airtight container. Line the container with a paper towel to help prevent sogginess. Omelets release a lot of excess moisture while they’re in the fridge, so using a paper towel keeps them nice and firm.

The bottom paper towel will soak up the liquid the omelet releases, so it is important to use paper towels when storing omelets.

If you are storing many omelettes at once, separate each omelet with a layer of parchment paper or paper towels. That way you don’t have to put each omelet in its own container!

Freezer

To freeze omelets, let them cool to room temperature first. Wrap the cooled omelettes in plastic wrap, then place them in a freezer bag. You can store multiple omelettes wrapped in plastic wrap in one bag.

Press as much air out of the freezer bag as you can, then place it in the freezer. This may sound like overkill, but omelettes are very susceptible to freezer burn. Taking these steps will prevent freezer burn from ruining your yummy eggs.

When freezing omelets, it is best not to add tomatoes or moisture heavy veggies (i.e. cooked spinach) to the omelettes. The vegetables will become mushy while they are thawing, so you won’t get as nice of a texture.

How Do You Know If the Omelette Has Gone Bad?

There are two main ways to know if your omelet has gone bad.

The first is giving the omelet a good look for any discoloration or mould. Cooked eggs can last in the fridge for a while, but eggs are sensitive to change.

Note that there may be some discoloration from the toppings you added into the eggs. But, there will be a noticeable difference between a green spot where spinach is and a green spot where there is none.

The other way to tell if an omelet has gone bad is by smelling it. Omelettes generally don’t have a strong scent, or smell eggy. But, if the extra omelets smell strange, then that’s an indicator that the omelettes have gone bad.

The best way to prevent omelettes from going bad is to store them in an airtight container as soon as they have cooled. Do not leave the omelet out for more than an hour. The warmth will make bacteria grow on egg dishes rapidly, and it will not be safe to store or eat.

How to Reheat Omelettes

There are numerous ways to reheat omelets, which is why they have become a staple in the meal prep world. Depending on your schedule and preference, you may prefer one of these tips better than the other to reheat omelette.

If reheating a frozen omelette, leave them in the fridge overnight to thaw first. This will make the process easier the next day.

Try them and let us know in the comments which way to reheat make ahead omelets is your favourite. Each method comes with some easy and practical tips to make the reheating process easy!

Oven

One of the best ways to reheat more than one omelet at the same time is to use the oven. To reheat an omelet in the oven there are a few easy steps to follow. This method does take the longest out of all the options on this list, but it produces a good end result.

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C and grease a baking sheet with spray oil.
  2. Put the omelet onto the greased baking tray, and place aluminium foil on top of the omelet.
  3. Place it in the oven to bake for around 5 minutes. It may take longer depending on how big your omelet is, and how many you have on the baking tray.
  4. Remove the omelet from the oven and carefully take off the foil. The foil keeps in a lot of steam, so be careful to not get all that steam in your face.
  5. Serve the reheated omelet and enjoy!

Microwave

A quick and easy way for reheating omelets is by using the ever so trusty microwave. Reheating omelets frozen versus refrigerated is slightly different. The directions for both are below. Make sure to use a microwavable dish to avoid any accidents in the kitchen.

The texture of the reheated omelets from microwaves can be a bit rubbery. Using a microwave may be convenient, but it could change the texture.

Here are the steps on how to reheat an omelet in the microwave.

Omelette with salad on a black plate.

Reheating an omelette from frozen

  1. Add a dry paper towel to a microwave-safe dish, then place the frozen omelettes onto the covered plate.
  2. Microwave it for about 5 minutes, but flip the omelet halfway through reheating. This will make sure the omelettes are heated thoroughly.
  3. Keep an eye on the omelet during the 5 minutes, so you don’t reheat the eggs too much.

Reheating an omelette from chilled

  1. Cover a microwave-safe plate with a damp paper towel.
  2. Heat it in the microwave for 30 seconds, then in 10 second intervals if you want it hotter. Check on the omelet often, so that you don’t overheat them.
  3. If you don’t have a damp paper towel, then add a bit of water to the omelet. Cover it with plastic wrap and pierce some holes in it.
  4. This will bring back moisture into the refrigerated omelet.

Toaster oven

Using this tool will give a similar effect as an oven, but it will be much easier. The omelettes will be warmed thoroughly, but the edges will be nice and crispy.

For omelettes that are frozen, this is the best way to reheat them.

  1. Preheat the toaster to 180C.
  2. Place the omelet on a small greased baking tray.
  3. Cover it in foil, then let it bake for a few minutes. Take it out of the toaster and remove the foil carefully.
  4. You can also skip adding foil if you want to make it a bit more crispy.
  5. Serve and enjoy!
Omelette with herbs.

Air Fryer

The hype around air fryers is well earned. Reheating omelettes in an air fryer is one of the quickest methods, but be careful to not leave the eggs in there too long. Leaving them too long in the air fryer will make the omelet dry.

Below is the best way to reheat an omelette properly in the air fryer.

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 180C.
  2. Line the air fryer with parchment paper or spray it with oil.
  3. If the omelet doesn’t fit into the air fryer’s tray, then cut it in half so it fits. Do not layer the omelettes.
  4. Once preheated, put the omelet in the air fryer.
  5. Leave it for 1 minute. If you would like it hotter, leave it for another minute.
  6. Serve and enjoy with a side salad or some toast.

Skillet

One of the best reheating methods for omelettes has to be using a skillet or frying pan. The omelet will cook evenly without overcooking it. So, you will get almost the same texture from the reheated omelettes as a fresh one.

Using a skillet to reheat an omelette also allows more control over reheating. You can add some extra cheese or vegetables on top of the omelette to make it taste fresh.

When reheating in a skillet, make sure the frozen omelettes are fully thawed before reheating. If they are not thawed, the eggs will release a lot of moisture into the pan, so it will not get those nice crispy edges. No one likes a soggy omelette!

Here are the steps to properly reheat an omelette in a skillet:

  1. Add butter to the pan and heat over medium heat.
  2. Once the butter is melted, put the omelette in the pan.
  3. Let it heat for about 2 minutes, then flip and heat the other side for around 1 or 2 minutes.
  4. If you have a thick omelette with lots of toppings like peppers, onions, or mushrooms, the cooking time may increase.
  5. If adding extra toppings onto the omelette, place aluminum foil on top to cook those ingredients faster while still heating the eggs.
  6. As soon as it has heated all the way through, serve it and eat.

Repurpose the Omelet

A great way to reheat an omelet is to repurpose it! By adding more egg mixture and toppings on top of the leftover omelettes, you get a whole “new” omelet! It may seem like a lot of work, but it is much simpler than it seems.

It is a great way to turn leftover omelettes into something new. For those who have picky kids, this is an awesome choice for reheating an omelet.

  1. Break and beat one egg until you don’t see any clear streaks.
  2. Put some butter into a pan and heat on medium heat.
  3. Once the butter has melted, place the omelet into the pan.
  4. Let it heat for about a minute, then pour the eggs on top of the omelet.
  5. Swirl the pan, so that the new eggs can hit the pan edges. This will give them a nice crispy texture.
  6. Cook until the bottom has become firm, then fold one half of the “new” eggs over the omelet.
  7. Flip and cook for a few minutes to cook the new eggs and heat the omelet thoroughly.
  8. Serve hot with some bacon and chives! Just about anything can make for a nice topping on your “fresh” omelet.

Reheating quiche can be a little tricky. You don’t want to end up with soggy, bland slices, right? Luckily, there are plenty of ways to reheat quiche so it tastes just as good as it did the first time around.

Quiche on a wooden board.

What Is Quiche?

Quiche is a French dish that consists of eggs, milk, and cheese in a pastry crust. It can also include other ingredients such as meat, vegetables, and herbs. Quiche is typically served for breakfast or brunch but can also be enjoyed for lunch or dinner.

Quiche Is Perfect Any Time!

We love quiches because they are such a versatile dish. They make for perfect lunch leftovers, or you can even eat them for breakfast if you like that sort of thing!

There are so many different variations of quiches out there—you could almost have one every day for a whole year and still not exhaust all the possibilities.

There are some tips and tricks that anyone who wants to reheat quiche should know about before getting started. Follow these simple steps and you will be able to successfully reheat your next quiche at home without any hiccups.

How to Reheat Quiche in the Oven

First up, we have the classic method of reheating quiche in the oven. This is an easy way to reheat quiche without having to mess with any extra utensils, and it’s also relatively quick!

This method works for a whole quiche or slices.

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Place the quiche on a baking sheet and cover it with aluminum foil.
  3. Bake the quiche for 15-20 minutes, or until it is heated through.
  4. Remove the aluminum foil and serve immediately.
Quiche with tomatoes on top.

Be Sure to Adjust for Smaller Servings

The smaller the quiche, the less time it will need to reheat in the oven. Once you've preheated the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (177°C), you can either place the dish containing your quiche slices in the oven on a baking sheet or in a baking dish.

For smaller dishes, reheat frozen quiche in the oven for 10-15 minutes, or until they are warm in the center.

How to Reheat Quiche Using a Toaster Oven

We love the toaster oven for reheating quiches. It will give you the same effect as the oven but in a much shorter amount of time! This is a quick and easy way to reheat leftover quiche for breakfast, lunch or any other time of the day.

  1. Turn the toaster oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (177°C).
  2. Next, place the dish of quiche slices on the top rack.
  3. Let them sit in the toaster oven for about 5-10 minutes, or until they are warm in the center.

Your reheated quiche will taste just as scrumptious as if it came out of the oven. We love quiche using either method. But what if you're in a hurry and don't have several minutes to wait for cooked quiche?

For that, you need to turn to your handy microwave!

Quiche with pears and cheese.

How to Reheat Quiche Using a Microwave

This is a quick and easy way to reheat your quiche when you have little time to spare. Best of all, reheating frozen quiche in the microwave is possible whether you are at work or at home with your kids!

  1. Place the dish of quiche in the microwave on a microwave-safe plate and heat them for 1 minute.
  2. Let the microwave sit for an extra minute before removing the dish to make sure the quiche is at an appropriate temperature.

We recommend reheating a few slices of quiche in the microwave for no longer than 60 seconds, as they can easily get overcooked and leave you with a rubbery texture if you leave them in too long.

Preparing leftover quiche in the microwave oven is about as convenient as you can get. You don't have to fiddle with toaster ovens or traditional ovens. Simply toss it in for a minute and you're good to go!

This is probably the handiest method for reheating refrigerated quiche dishes.

Bottom-Only Reheating Method

For an interesting twist on the classic reheating method, try the bottom-only reheating method. This is when you place just the bottom of the slices in the microwave or toaster oven to heat them.

Place the bottom of the quiche slice in the microwave or toaster oven for about 30 seconds. The bottom will heat up very quickly and then you can flip it over and top it with a slice of cheese. This is a great way to reheat slices for a quick and easy lunch!

Tips for Reheating Quiche

1. How to Prevent Soggy Quiche

There are a few things you can do to prevent your quiche from turning out soggy. First, be sure to cook the whole quiche until the center is set and not jiggly.

Second, avoid adding too much liquid to the quiche mixture. If you do, you can always drain any excess liquid before serving to help combat soggy quiche.

And third, let the quiche cool slightly before serving. This will allow the filling to get firm and ensure a more appetizing dish.

2. Defrost and Reheat Together

If you are rewarming a sliced quiche that used to have a pie crust, you can save yourself the trouble of defrosting the entire thing by simply reheating the slices while they are still frozen! Place the frozen quiche slices in the microwave or toaster oven. Let them sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until they are warm to the touch.

3. Soup up Your Quiche with Vegetable Broth

Did your quiche get a little dried out while it was in the fridge? If so, you can add some extra moisture by reheating it with some vegetable broth! This is a great method to use if you have a quiche with a lot of eggs in it.

Pour a cup of vegetable broth into a saucepan and heat it to a low simmer. Place the slices of quiche in the bowl, pour the hot broth over top, and let them sit for about 5 minutes. The liquid will help restore the quiche’s moister texture.

Creamy, rich, and satisfying are all words that describe a good risotto. But what if you make too much of this decadent rice dish and want to save some for the next time you have a craving for risotto, can you reheat it?

Close up of chicken risotto recipe.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED TO REHEAT RISOTTO

  • Heat proof bowl - to use for the microwave or for the steamer basket method, having
  • a bowl that can withstand high temps is a great help with reheating risotto
  • Glass airtight containers - the best way to store your leftover risotto. These will also work well in the freezer if you choose to freeze risotto
  • 3-quart sauce pan - this one has a steamer basket insert. Whether you are using the steaming method or the stove top method to reheat risotto, you will need a good sauce pan with a lid to get the job done
  • Cast iron pan - the best vessel for shallow frying the arancini balls made from your leftover risotto. It is important to have a thick sided pan when heating oil and deep frying
  • Spider strainer - this funny named tool will help you retrieve your risotto balls from the hot oil when they are crispy and turn golden brown
  • Microwave - the ultimate tool for easily heating anything, especially leftover cold risotto

DOES RISOTTO REHEAT WELL?

The short answer is yes! However, you need to make sure to use the correct methods and follow the steps to ensure you keep the creamy texture and don’t end up with a dried out risotto.

After all, risotto is a time consuming process to make and it would be a real shame to ruin the leftovers.

When reheating risotto make sure to keep a couple points in mind:

Try to reheat the freshly cooked risotto within 2 days of making it. The longer it sits the more likely it is to be mushy when you try to reheat it.

Make sure that you have fully reheated risotto no matter what method you choose to use. Not only do you now want to eat cold risotto, but this is important to avoid any food poisoning that could come from bacteria that may have formed in the leftovers.

For this reason it is not advisable to reheat the risotto leftovers more than once.

If you are making a large batch and know you will be saving a portion for leftovers, separate it out immediately and allow it to cool in the fridge overnight.

Do not eat risotto that has been left out on the counter at room temperature for too long, as it can also breed bacteria.

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF RISOTTO IS PROPERLY COOKED?

Cooking risotto is a relatively simple process, but it can be time consuming. Arborio rice is the ideal choice for making a risotto dish as it is a short grain rice and is able to absorb a lot of liquid.

Arborio rice is high in starch, which is necessary for creating a creamy risotto dish. Using regular rice will not work as it will just become mushy and is best saved for other rice dishes.

In order to cook risotto, you will slowly add heated stock to your rice while continuously stirring it. Over time the stirring will release the starch, making it creamy.

Your risotto is fully cooked when it is no longer crunchy and looks creamy. After all, no one wants to eat uncooked rice!

Squid ink risotto.

HOW LONG DOES COOKED RISOTTO LAST?

Properly cooked risotto is best consumed within 2 days but can be eaten up to 5 days, if stored in the refrigerator. I do not recommend freezing, but if you do, do not keep frozen risotto for longer than 3 months.

HOW DO YOU STORE RISOTTO?

You should keep your leftover risotto in an airtight container in the refrigerator to prevent bacterial growth.

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF RISOTTO HAS GONE BAD?

It is easy to tell if your leftover risotto mixture has gone bad. Simply give it a smell and if it has an off aroma to you, you will know that it is no longer good. I recommend reheating risotto within 2 days for best results, and absolutely no longer than after 5 days.

HOW TO REHEAT RISOTTO

When reheating in the oven, stove, or microwave you may want to add grated cheese like parmigiano or a little butter towards the end of the reheating process. This will not only add to the creamy dish but also add some additional flavor and even a little texture if the cheese gets crispy.

See the best 4 methods below.

HOW TO REHEAT RISOTTO IN THE OVEN

  1. Heat your oven to 300°F.
  1. Using a heatproof bowl, add your risotto and spread out as best you can.
  1. Using the ratio of one cup of risotto to a tablespoon chicken or vegetable broth, add your liquid to the bowl and mix. You can use water if you don’t have broth.
  1. Cover the dish with foil and place in the hot oven for 15-20 minutes, depending on the amount.
  1. Check halfway through and gently stir the risotto to ensure even heat through the reheating process.
Chicken and Leek Risotto.

HOW TO REHEAT RISOTTO USING A STEAMER BASKET

  1. Fill a saucepan with a steamer inserted halfway with plain water. Bring the water to a boil.
  1. Put your risotto into an oven safe glass bowl, and place it in the steamer basket, being careful of the steam. Cover with a lid.
  1. Lower to a medium heat and steam for 3-4 minutes, depending on the portion size.
  1. Remove the lid and stir a few times throughout the heating process to make sure it is evenly reheated. If it looks dry, add a little water or stock.

HOW TO REHEAT RISOTTO USING THE MICROWAVE METHOD

  1. Using a microwave safe dish,  add your portion of risotto to be reheated. Add a few tablespoons of water, vegetable, or meat broth.
  1. Cover the dish with plastic wrap or a damp paper towel, whichever you prefer and place risotto in the microwave.
  1. Reheat risotto by using short bursts of heat, around 30 seconds, and stirring in between.

Using a damp paper towel will help to create moisture and avoid a dry risotto, while plastic will trap the steam inside of the bowl. Be sure to make some small holes in the wrap so it does not balloon.

HOW TO REHEAT RISOTTO ON THE STOVE

  1. Begin by adding vegetable or meat stock, water, or white wine to your saucepan. Use the ratio of 3 tablespoons to a cup of risotto. Bring to a simmer.
  1. Add your risotto and stir to combine with your liquid. Allow the risotto to cook for 4 to 5 minutes until evenly heated.
Parmesan Risotto.

HOW TO MAKE RICE BALLS OR ARANCINI FROM CHILLED RISOTTO

  1. Put high temperature oil in your cast iron frying pan such as vegetable, grapeseed, or canola oil. You can also use olive oil that is not extra virgin. Turn on a medium high heat.
  1. You will need 2 beaten eggs in one bowl, add more if needed. You will also need a cup of bread crumbs, plus more if needed.
  1. To prepare the risotto, remove it from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes. If you would like, you can add some cheese at this point, or wait until they are finished to give them a nice sprinkle. Next, form it into balls about the size of golf balls.
  1. Once your oil is at 375°F you are ready to fry. Dip your rice ball into the egg mixture and then into the breadcrumbs. Next place each one into the cast iron and pan fry until they reach a golden brown color. Do not overcrowd the pan.
  1. Remove the arancini and lay on paper towels or parchment paper to rest before enjoying. Serve hot.

This is a great way to repurpose your leftover risotto into a new dish. If you wish, finish with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice, or a light (or heavy) layer of cheese. Make sure that the risotto inside has reached an internal temperature of 165°F.

If you love Parmesan cheese, you simply have to check out this recipe!

Can you reheat prawns? If you’ve ever had really delicious prawns, you have probably wondered if it is safe to do so. If you're in this position to learn more about cooking prawns, storing prawns, and reheating them.

pan fried butter garlic prawns

Equipment Needed to Reheat Prawns

The equipment you’ll need to reheat prawns depends on the method you are using.

If you are using an oven, you’ll need a cookie sheet. If you are reheating on the stovetop, you’ll need a large saucepan

If you are reheating them in the microwave, you’ll need paper towels and a microwave-safe plate. If you are reheating them in the air fryer, you will need either parchment paper or foil

You’ll also need oil or melted butter to drizzle no matter what apparatus you are using to reheat them.

Their Taste When Reheated

Prawns, when reheated properly, still taste perfectly fine. They should have a similar flavour and texture to shrimp, and be just as delicious as the first time they were cooked.

Their Texture When Reheated

If you are safely reheating prawns, their texture could change a little bit, but it won’t be a major change.

Proper Internal Temperature

Prawns should have an internal temp of 145°F. This is when you know they are safe to eat.

If prawns have a temperature less than 145°F, you put yourself at risk of food poisoning. This is why it is important to make sure they were properly handled, and cooked thoroughly.

What Are Prawns?

Prawns are a freshwater crustacean that have a similar taste and texture to shrimp. They are a very versatile food that tastes great in a variety of recipes, like salad, pasta, or even just in a bowl with grains.

Because they are similar to shrimp, they pair well in many a dish you’d find shrimp in, and can even be used as a substitute.

If you would like, you can use them as a chicken substitute, too.

Can You Eat Them Raw?

Prawns can be eaten raw. Raw prawns are bluish-grey in colour, and are most often used in sushi dishes.

Can You Eat Cooked Prawns?

Yes, you can eat cooked prawns. One of the beauties of prawns is that they can be consumed in so many ways.

You will typically find prawn in a dish that’s cooked.

Do They Need to be Piping Hot Throughout?

It would behoove you to ensure that your prawns are piping hot throughout. This is the best way to avoid harmful bacteria and illness in leftovers.

What Is the Best Method to Reheat Prawns?

The best method for reheating prawns depends on the recipe and the amount of prawns you are cooking.

If you only want to reheat a couple of prawns, I suggest using the air fryer or the microwave.

But if you want to reheat a lot, I suggest using the oven as you can fit more on a cookie sheet than in a microwave or the air fryer.

Where Should You Store Leftover Prawns?

Storing prawns in a great way to enjoy them later. You can store leftover prawns in the fridge or the freezer. Again, though, they will last longer in the freezer.

a prawn cocktail, prawns with avocado and other greens

How Long Do They Last When Stored?

Prawns do not last that long, although they will last a little bit longer in the freezer, they only last a couple days in the fridge.

If you want to reheat them, it’s important that you do so within a couple days of storing them.

How to Freeze Prawns

You can freeze prawns, but you cannot refreeze them if they have been frozen before. Once you thaw frozen prawns, you cannot put them back in the freezer.

Can You Reheat Prawns More Than Once?

You should not reheat prawns more than once. Doing so can be harmful and make you sick.

The best way to eat prawns cooked is either when they are freshly cooked or after reheating them once.

Can You Leave Them Out Overnight?

No, like shrimp, you cannot leave prawns out overnight. They will become spoiled and be unsafe to eat. Whether they were cooked or raw, they should not be left out overnight.

Always save uneaten prawn in the fridge or freezer.

What Other Seafood Can You Reheat?

You can reheat other seafood like scallops and shrimp. You can also reheat a variety of fish.

Although it doesn’t always taste the best, or smell the best, you can reheat a lot of underwater foods.

Do You Need to Reheat Red Prawns and White Prawns Differently?

Nope, you do not have to worry about cooking prawns or reheating them differently according to their color. All you have to worry about is what delicious recipes you are going to use them in.

A finished bowl of Prawn Korma, prawns covered in yellow sauce on white rice

Do They Have Bacteria?

Yes, they do have bacteria. That is why it is so important to cook prawns and ensure they are piping hot throughout.

Remember, you can eat prawns raw, but this does increase your chance of contracting a foodborne illness.

Can You Eat Cooked Prawns Cold?

If you know that your prawns were handled, cooked, and stored properly, then you can eat cooked prawns cold. Keep in mind that you may have to cook prawns yourself to be certain that they were handled properly.

Eating prawns cold can make you more susceptible to foodborne illnesses and harmful bacteria, so it is best to reheat them before eating instead of eating them cold.

Can You Reheat Prawns on the Stovetop?

It is safe to reheat prawns on the stove top. Put them in a large saucepan and stir occasionally to prevent scorching, but not too much so that they are given time to cook. Make sure they are spread out throughout the saucepan, and that you cook them with butter or oil.

Can You Reheat Prawns in the Microwave?

You can definitely reheat prawns in the microwave.

Sandwich them in between paper towels and microwave until reheated in 30 second increments. Flip them over after each pass in the microwave to make sure they are reheated on both sides.

You can also heat them in a glass container, like a Pyrex storage bin. Try to avoid plastic, though.

This is a great way to reheat when you are only cooking for yourself or a couple people as it does not take much time, nor does it cause a mess. It’s also a great way if you are adding them to a cold dish like salad.

What About Boiling Them?

It is not a great idea to reheat prawns by boiling them. Although it would be safe to reheat them in this way, it would affect the texture, and not taste very good.

Instead of eating boiled prawn, fry them in a skillet. It’ll taste delicious!

Can You Reheat Prawns in the Air Fryer?

Reheating prawns is also very easy to do in the air fryer. Air fryers that double as toaster ovens often have a reheat setting, but if they don’t, just set the air fryer to 300°F and cook for about two minutes.

You should not need to flip them since air fryers work as convection ovens, circulating the air throughout.

Frozen shrimp in a bowl

How to Avoid Food Poisoning

There is a chance of becoming ill when eating prawns, especially raw prawns. The best way to avoid foodborne illness from prawn is by eating them cooked, but you can safely eat them raw, too.

If you have a weakened immune system or are pregnant, it is best to avoid eating raw prawns to avoid foodborne illness. If you are eating raw prawns, and you notice a funky taste or odor, stop eating them immediately, as this could be a sign of bacteria that could cause food poisoning.

Do not eat them if they’ve been sitting out at room temperature for too long, or if other foods in your dish exhibit unsafe signs, too.

How to Properly Handle Prawns

Prawns need to be handled with care to avoid contamination. They should be peeled, cleaned, and deveined before eating.

How to Know if a Prawn is Properly Cooked

You will be able to tell whether a prawn is properly cooked by looking at its color, but don’t forget to check the internal temperature. You want it to be piping hot throughout before eating.

Do not add a prawn to a dish if it has only gotten warm, not hot. If you want cool prawn in your meals, like salad, cook them until hot and let them cool before adding them.

How to Know if a Prawn Has Gone Bad

Do not eat prawns after three days of cooking them.

If prawns have a rotten odor, or are discolored, you should not consume them. Telling whether prawns are safe to eat is similar to telling whether fish is safe to eat.

Proper Storage

You can easily store prawns, but not for very long. They make good leftovers, but only if you eat them within a couple days and after they are properly stored.

Store prawns in the fridge in airtight packaging, like a glass container or a vacuum-sealed plastic freezer bag.

When you properly prepare to store them, it makes it much easier to defrost, too. Click here to see our complete guide as to how to do so.

How to Package Leftover Prawns

Again, storing prawns is a great way to enjoy them after you have cooked them. You can store them in a glass container, as this will keep them from taking on a smell or taste from the fridge or freezer.

General Advice for Reheating Prawns

Here are a couple of tips to follow when you are reheating prawns:

  • Flip halfway through. Flipping halfway through is an important step, because it gets both sides of the prawns cooked, and ensures they are piping hot throughout.
  • Don’t forget the liquid. Drizzling prawns in oil or butter before reheating gives them some moisture and prevents them from drying out. No one wants a dry prawn in their dish!
  • Don’t overheat. If you overheat your prawns, they will take on a rubbery, chewy texture. You want them to have the texture of shrimp, and that will come more naturally when you do not overheat them.

Cooking with Leftover Prawns

After safely reheating prawns, you can eat them in a variety of delicious recipes. Here are some of my favorite ways to eat leftover prawns:

  • Salads
  • Pasta
  • Rice dishes, such as fried rice
  • Breaded

To me, there is no dish that doesn’t taste good with prawn!

Who doesn't like a burrito? The combination of meat, rice, tomatoes, spices and sour cream, all wrapped up in a tasty tortilla.

But we all know burritos are best served warm. So, what if you a leftover burrito and it's lost its heat. Have you ever wondered how to reheat a burrito?

Well, you've come to the right place. Reheating a burrito is easily done. In fact, there are several ways.

Two burritos to show you how to reheat a burrito

What you'll need to reheat a burrito

Depending on the method you choose to reheat your burrito, you'll need the following:

  • Skillet – you can reheat your burrito by grilling it in a cast iron skillet
  • Lid – you'll need to cover the skillet when heating the burrito
  • Spatula – you'll need this for pressing down and flipping your burrito when heating it on the stove
  • Olive oil spray – a little spray of oil will stop the tortilla catching in the pan
  • Microwave – reheating a burrito in a microwave is quick and easy... but there's a few points to keep in mind (see next section)
  • Oven toaster – an oven toaster is a quick way to reheat this delicious snack, without taking away the taste
  • Aluminum foil – this will protect the tortilla when reheating in the oven (not in the microwave!)
  • Thermometer – you'll need this to check that the meat is at a safe temperature to eat. And if you haven't got a meat thermometer, now's the time to invest!

What is a burrito?

A burrito is a mouthwatering Mexican and Tex-Mex wrap. To make a one, you take a flour tortilla and wrap it around a variety of ingredients, including meat, rice and refried beans, with some spices added for extra zing. Sour cream and guacamole is often added to balance out the spiciness.

The tortilla itself is sometimes lightly grilled or steamed, to give it extra bendability. This makes sure the tortilla hugs all the filling and that everything stays together. There's nothing worse than a burrito that falls apart!

The meat used in a burrito is normally beef, chicken or pork. Lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and different types of cheese. And of course, there are a thousand different types of sauce that are used to flavour burritos.

The name burrito translates as "little donkey" in Spanish. One theory behind the name is that a burrito can carry a lot of different things all wrapped together, much like a donkey. Well, I like to think that's where the name came from!

The traditional burrito has evolved across different cultures. A particular favourite in the US is the California burrito, which goes all out – it's a gigantic flour tortilla filled with marinated spice rubbed steak, stuffed to the brim with Mexican street fries, cheese, sour cream and guacamole.

California burritos can normally be found in popular Mexican fast food joints, like Taco Bell.

Can you reheat a burrito with guacamole?

Two wraps with lettuce

If you wondering how to reheat a burrito with guacamole and other salads, without affecting the taste, the best way is to unwrap the burrito.

Some ingredients in the burrito, like the meat and the actual tortilla wrap, need to be heated. Whereas the cold ingredients will lose flavor when heated. So, the best way is to separate them.

Once heated, you can add the guacamole and salad back into the burrito, then carefully rewrap it. It'll taste as good as new!

Can you reheat a burrito with sour cream?

The same goes for sour cream. Heating it will taint the taste. It may seem like too much effort, but it's so worth it.

Unwrap the burrito and, using a spoon, spoon out the sour cream from the filling. Once you've heated the burrito, simply replace all of the salad ingredients and rewrap your burrito. Easy!

Open faced tortilla with beans and vegetables

Best way to reheat a burrito

In a microwave

If you've ever just thrown a burrito into the microwave, you'll know that it'll just turn into a soggy, messy, wet burrito. This is because the microwave heats the moisture inside the burrito, which ends up seeping into the tortilla.

The trick is to sprinkle water onto the tortilla before you put the burrito into the microwave. This way shouldn't take more than 2 minutes to heat your burrito. Make sure you remove any foil before putting your burrito in the microwave!

On the stove

This may seem a little overboard for heating a simple. But if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right!

A little spray of oil in a skillet is all takes. This method should take around 5 minutes.

In the oven

If you want a crisp burrito that tastes as good as when you first made it (or bought it), reheat your burrito in the oven. It'll keep its flavour and will gain a satisfying crunch.

In a toaster oven

Another good method, this will help the burrito to keep its texture and taste.

Two been buritos

How to cook a frozen burrito

If your urge to eat a burrito takes over, and you'll got a handy supply stockpiled in the freezer (homemade or a leftover burrito from Taco Bell), reheating frozen burritos takes less than 5 minutes in the microwave – just wrap each frozen burrito in a wet paper towel.

But if you want to know how to make frozen burritos taste better, you'll need to take a little longer and cook them in the oven.

To cook it in the oven, preheat your oven the 400 degrees Fahrenheit. You'll need to first wrap your burrito in foil, then place it on a baking tray on the top shelf of the oven. It'll take around 40 minutes.

If you're wondering how to cook a frozen burrito in a toaster oven, it's simple. Wrap it in foil and place it in a preheated toaster oven (400 degrees Fahrenheit) and cook for 15-20 minutes.

If you want to know how to cook a frozen burrito on the stove, just microwave it for a minute, then transfer into a pan. Sautee in a lightly oiled pan until the tortilla starts to brown.

Always make sure the meat is heated through to a safe temperature. Chicken should be 165 degrees Fahrenheit, and pork and beef should both be 145 degrees Fahrenheit.

Plate of wings with a barbeque sauce to learn how to reheat chicken wings

5 ways how to reheat chicken wings

One of the worst things that happens when reheating chicken wings is that oftentimes you end up with tough skin. Chewy chicken skin is to be avoided at all costs, since it makes the chicken completely unappetizing and ruins the entire experience.

When this happens, I usually just take off the chicken skin from the wings, and just continue eating the chicken. However, that's such a waste because one of the best things about eating them is for the crunchy and tasty skin!

Top products you need

Before we deep-dive into finding out how to reheat chicken wings, first you have to understand which equipment you'll need. Hence, take a look at this list below and see which of these kitchen gadgets and equipment you've got at home.

  • air fryer: If you make air fried chicken wings, you can reheat them in the air fryer as well. Besides, with an air fryer you can make other fantastic air fryer recipes like this air fried salmon.
  • microwave: This is a must have kitchen appliance. I mean, name one person who doesn't heat their food with a microwave at this day and age?

How do you reheat chicken without drying it out?

Nobody can resist those finger-licking delicious chicken wings. Still, for best results, you should brine them first. Here is a guide about how to brine chicken wings.

Basically, the salt and sugar inside the brine solution break down the protein.  Usually when you cook chicken wings, the muscles contract and push out moisture. With brining it happens not as much and the meat comes out much juicier!

Brining also helps during the reheating process. It prevents the chicken from becoming rubbery and dry. It works on other cuts of chicken as well, check out ultimate guide to brining chicken.
